Your work with us, YMCA Mendip & South Somerset, is mainly focused around supporting young people, but we also provide support to people over the age of 25.
We perfectly know as homelessness can affect anyone at any stage in their life; people’s circumstances can so easily change!
Our supported housing project, Spencer House in Wells, is really proud to have been able to help another one of its residents due to the kindness of a local person who makes regular monthly donations.
Spencer House has been able to offer a window of new job opportunities to a resident, who has previously struggled to find work. Our resident was offered to attend a refresher CSCS course (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme), which we were thrilled to find out he had passed, therefore gaining a CSCS card. The CSCS card is so important because it provides proof that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out. Our resident is now applying for work on building sites, which will enable him to move on from Spencer House and be able to rebuild his life with more confidence.
We are so grateful for the support we receive from our community, without it we would not be able to offer such a life-changing opportunity.
