This year’s Red Triangle Award goes to someone who has been a dedicated and loyal trustee of a local YMCA for over 20 years.
She has overseen the running of what was a small YMCA, transforming it to the great success it is today.
Since starting her journey as an advice worker with care leavers 24 years ago, her passion and dedication resulted in her progressing to Chief Executive.
Working tirelessly to build a sustainable organisation, and never losing focus on the importance of young people, she transformed a small part-time team to the 150 staff they have today.
Ensuring YMCA continues to offer accommodation, youth work, advice and support to the community, she is respected by funders, her peers and local residents.
The journey has been long and hard accessing funds and sustaining what is an amazing YMCA; but despite this she recently led her YMCA to become a Registered Provider of Social Housing.
Her dedication to grow the organisation and continue to sustain the fantastic work of YMCA is astounding.
It is with great pleasure that this year’s Red Triangle Award is presented to Karen Deverell from YMCA Mendip.
